A theme song for this Pipsqueak is on the way.

The Little Hope of Novelty Hill

Esperanto was first logged on September 11 on Novelty Hill: a little lime-green egg of a pumpkin, wrapped in pale yellow-green lace. He was named for Esperanto, the language made so everyone could talk to each other, and his name means β€œone who hopes.” He was still green on Harvest Party day, so he stayed in the Patch and kept on hoping. When the frost crept in, the Cowboy Pinoy wrapped the vines up tight, and in about nine days Esperanto turned from green to orange. On October 16, the patch walk-through day, he went home with a new family: 4 lb 2 oz on the scale and 22 inches around.

Things I Want My New Family to Know

From Esperanto, in his own words.

  • When the grown-ups first found me, I was a little lime-green egg wrapped in lace. My name means β€œone who hopes,” and I hoped a whole lot!
  • I was still green on party day, so I stayed in the Patch and kept on hoping. Then I turned orange, just in time.
  • Now I have a home of my own. Thank you for taking me home!
