Concierge said "Bonjour!" at the door, and Enchanté went "Enchanté!"
Sieur de la Mâchoire bowed "Bonsoir!" — "Ooh là là!" — and I sighed, "Ooh, la!" the Scouse way.
"Merci! Ma chérie! Mon amour!" — every greeting full of heart,
So I tried it out in Scouse, la — "Je t'aime, love!" — just to make a start,
Just a little lad with a Liverpool name, savin' every "mon amour" for the one who'd take me heart.

Then Concierge, Enchanté and Sieur de la Mâchoire went home with their families, and so,
For six long days there were sad, bare spots where they'd stood, and I snuggled by me buddy when the nights dipped low,
Till the Wombat Hollow rooster crowed "Cocorico!" on day six — DyAnne, we were matched! Bravo!

The Onlooker of Novelty Hill
Lil Macca was not on the registry at all until the day he went home. Through the Harvest Party he sat on the west side of Novelty Hill, a small, round, glossy pumpkin watching the French-named greeters welcome the guests. Nobody picked him that day. For six days afterward he kept warm next to a bigger buddy as the nights turned cold, while the spots where Concierge, Enchanté and Sieur de la Mâchoire had stood sat empty. On October 10, DyAnne took him home. His name is a nod to Sir Paul McCartney, because DyAnne is a big fan. At his one and only weigh-in he was 9.9 ounces on the scale, 10 5/8 inches around the middle and 10 3/4 inches around over the top: very nearly a perfect ball.
